HOW TO ADOPT: This cat is participating in our Shelter Cat Getaway foster program, which gives cats a vacation from the shelter and lets them enjoy home life while they wait to be adopted. To schedule a time to meet this cat, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org

Fozzie and Frankie are Bonded Buddies. They will be adopted as a pair.

– This cat came from a situation where he did not get the socialization and handling that cats typically get from a young age. Because of this, he will be fearful in new environments and around new people, and will need weeks and likely months of acclimation time to feel safe in a home

– He may never enjoy being picked up or held – he will be a “companion” cat for someone who wants a cat to love and care for and is okay not having an affectionate lap cat

– Looking for a patient family who will give him extra time to adjust and understand that he will hide at first; that he will need patience when introducing grooming, carriers and veterinary visits; and that a relationship with him will likely be built on trust and routine, rather than physical affection

– Has lived with other cats his entire life and may benefit from having a calm, confident feline companion to help him feel more secure and show him the ropes in a home environment

– Will do best in a quiet, mature, predictable home with a cat-savvy adopter who understands under socialized or fearful cats; while progress may be slow, it will be so rewarding to watch this cat open up, build trust with her people and ultimately thrive

– Children are not a good fit for this cat, and he will thrive in a very calm, predictable, quiet environment

– Please plan on starting him in one room of your home and giving him quite a bit of time (possibly months) to become comfortable with that area and with you before allowing him access to larger areas of the home; this process will help set him up for success by not overwhelming him

– Very active and loves playing with wand toys. Also loves antagonizing his buddy, Frankie

– Asks for pets and will get on the couch/bed with his foster parents

– This cat has had difficulty clearing an upper respiratory infection at the shelter, and we suspect they may experience similar symptoms in times of stress, a condition called chronic URI; we are happy to talk to you more when you meet this cat, but we’d also recommend speaking to your regular veterinarian if you have questions

All adoptable cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP as appropriate for their age)
