HOW TO ADOPT: This animal is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this animal, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.

– Sweet, shy pup who may need extra time to warm up to new people and things; will likely open up in a home environment with patience and time and may prefer a calm, quiet home

– Gentle, calm and polite; once she feels comfortable, she is affectionate with her people and likes being within arm’s reach in case she can get a little more love

– Loves being indoors; will go outside and do her business and then come back in – no long walks necessary! Also does not like to be hot and is a big fan of the A/C

– Walks well on a leash and does not pull, but she knows where she wants to go and how fast (not very fast); when she needs a rest, she may just flop down and take one

– Recently went on a Dog’s Day Out field trip and had a great time with her human companions: “Sugar is such a sweetheart with so much love to give. She would thrive in a home that can provide her all the love right back. She’s very chill, and would be happy in a quiet, calm environment.”

– Has been fully potty trained in her foster home; just remember that any dog may take time to adjust to a new schedule

– Not the biggest fan of car rides, and loud, unfamiliar noises can make her nervous

– Young, noisy or busy children can be too much for her; would benefit from a home with more mature family members who will give her time to settle in and help her build confidence

– May take some time to warm up to new dogs and may prefer some dogs over others; would be most comfortable with a slow introduction to new dogs (dog intro required)

– Overall, she’s very low-maintenance, very loving and a little bit shy; she’s just waiting for a kind person with a spot on the couch for her!

This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program. If you’re interested in fostering to adopt, please reach out to meetme@arl-iowa.org.

The ARL’s shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label.
