Crisis Care

Crisis Care

The ARL’s Crisis Care Program is intended to help keep families together while they are facing hardships. With the help of fosters, we do our best to provide pet(s) with short-term care, veterinary care and exams and food. We also provide vaccinations, microchips, and other resources to enhance well-being and stability once everyone is reunited.

The Crisis Care program works with the family/individual and community service providers to create a safe and appropriate care plan for reunification. By providing these temporary resources, the Crisis Care program prevents pet owners from being permanently separated from their pets and reduces further heartache during an already stressful time.

  • For cases involving domestic violence, individuals must be referred to this program by Children and Families of Iowa.
  • Veterans in crisis are to be referred to this program through Veterans Affairs.
  • This program has a standard duration of 30 days, with the option of extensions based on individual needs and circumstances.
  • All crisis care pets that are unaltered will be spayed/neutered before returning home.

The ARL tries to assist as many individuals as possible, but we are currently unable to provide assistance for:

  • Requests where public records do not align with what is stated in the Request Form.
  • Situations involving incarceration.
  • Requests from individuals whose public record has any of the following: assault charges, domestic violence-related charges, breaches of no-contact orders, or interference with official acts.
