Getting a pet ready for adoption takes time, care, and resources. On average, one day of care in the shelter costs $20 per animal — and that just includes food, shelter, and daily care! After medical care and behavior care, the average cost to get a pet ready for adoption is $600 since each adoption includes age-appropriate vaccinations, a spay/neuter surgery, preventative care, daily enrichment, and more. When you adopt, you’re not just bringing home a new family member—you’re giving a pet the second chance they deserve, with all the essentials already covered.
Discounts on dog training classes + free training advice
Training is essential for building a strong relationship with your pet, and a crucial part of their care. The ARL offers a 10% discount on all training classes, and we provide training advice anytime you need it via our free behavior helpline.

Adoption Programs & Discounts
Pets for Seniors
Through the Pets for the Elderly program, individuals ages 60 and older can get $50 off the adoption fee of a dog or cat 6+ months of age. The ARL's normal adoption process still applies, and adoptions cannot be combined with other offers. This program is offered at ARL Main, ARL West, ARL Animal Services, and ARL Club WDM as funds are available.
Paws for Patriots
Through this program, all U.S. veterans can adopt a dog or cat for half the normal adoption fee and get 25% off ARL dog training classes. Thank you to all who serve and have served our country!
Bonded Buddles Program
Adopters can bring home a second dog or cat at a special rate through the Bonded Buddies Program. When you adopt one cat or dog at the regular adoption fee, you can adopt a second cat or dog for just $25. Both pets must be at least 6 months old and live in the same household.
At ARL, we know that many animals thrive with companionship. Some cats and dogs come to us as bonded pairs, meaning they must be adopted together due to their unique, close relationship. Others may not be bonded but can still benefit from having a friend adopted at the same time. In many cases, adopting two pets together can help prevent behavior issues and provide much-needed emotional support for them both.
