For nearly 100 years, the ARL has dedicated itself to being a safe haven for animals across Iowa and beyond. With each passing year, the need for these lifesaving efforts grows. We now have a unique opportunity to transform our rescue operations - first, by moving our barn program to a new location just down the road from our Main campus and renovate the current barn into a rescue facility that will better accommodate large intakes, rescue operations, and animals being saved from disasters. The Challenges We Face
When dozens – or often hundreds – of animals are rescued from cruelty situations all at once, it puts immense pressure on our current facility. Often, our team has to quickly convert rooms not meant for rescues into areas we can use to house the new animals and temporarily isolate them from our existing population for the health and safety of all involved. Our current facility simply isn't designed for the rescues that keep coming - and the calls to our Animal Welfare and Response Team for assistance are not slowing.

| At the same time, our Second Chance Ranch program has also faced capacity challenges. Our ranch has served as a safe haven for as many as 60 horses at a time in recent years, as well as dozens of other barn animals, but the area is landlocked and we have outgrown the space. We also lack a pasture area for horses in our care to graze while our team prepares them for adoption - and as the number of horses in our care has grown, it has become an even bigger need. |
