HOW TO ADOPT: This cat is participating in our Shelter Cat Getaway foster program, which gives cats a vacation from the shelter and lets them enjoy home life while they wait to be adopted. To schedule a time to meet this cat, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org or Carol at cgriglione@arl-iowa.org. — – Very playful guy who likes catnip and wand toys – Cuddly and enjoys sitting next to you and being petted – Sweet lap cat – Likes to sleep in his round cat bed – Welcomes attention and enjoys companionship – Will follow you around to keep you company and to see what’s going on! – Has lived with another FIV+ cat and did well with it – Tends to be stressed around dogs and would prefer a home without them – Is a tidy boy and prefers multiple uncovered litterboxes in quiet, accessible areas This cat has tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus. FIV attacks the immune system leaving a cat vulnerable to recurrent infections. There currently is no cure for FIV, but infected cats can live fairly normal lives for years. FIV is transmitted through deep bite wounds. Casual contact such as sharing food/water bowls, mutual grooming, etc. is unlikely to spread FIV. However, we recommend that this cat be an only cat or live with other FIV+ cats. More info is on this cat’s kennel, but if you have questions, please consult your regular veterinarian before adoption. |
