A new year has just begun, and our rescue teams have already assisted with multiple rescues in the Des Moines area and beyond – including an urgent removal of dozens of animals three hours away in northeast Iowa.
When we arrived on the property with authorities, we found dogs, cats, chickens and more living in conditions no animal should ever have to endure. Our team quickly began leading the rescue operation, working with partner shelters in the region to carefully remove the animals and transport them to safety.
Back at the shelter, our Miracle Medical Team began evaluating and treating the animals brought to the ARL. The cats were thin and suffering from upper respiratory infections, flea and ear mite infestations, and other serious conditions. Sadly, one cat was so sick we were unable to save her. The others are receiving daily treatments and supportive care, but they have a long road ahead.
Most shocking of all was a very thin dog named Prince who is missing half of his lower jaw. We don’t know how this poor dog got this way or how long he has been living in this condition, but our team is doing everything we can for him. He is now on a gruel diet that he is able to eat, and he is being monitored closely by our veterinary team.
These rescues are just the beginning. We don’t know when the next call for help will come. What we do know is that it WILL come, and we can only keep doing this lifesaving work with your support.
When you give today to support rescue efforts like these or choose to give monthly, we can continue to be there for innocent animals in Iowa in 2026 and beyond, no matter the distance or number of animals in need.
P.S.: When you give today or join our Loyal Friends Club monthly giving program, you’ll be automatically enrolled to receive updates on these animals.
