Dogs rescued in alleged abuse case

Our team has responded to numerous cases of animal cruelty across the state in just the past few months, but this time the horror was in our own city.

Yesterday, ARL Animal Services officers assisted Des Moines Police in rescuing two dogs, named Supreme and Legend, after an investigation into a 911 call about a man violently abusing a dog in a downtown neighborhood. Investigators found video evidence that showed a helpless dog, identified as Supreme, being punched, slammed to the ground and slammed into a wall.

When our team arrived at the residence, they were shocked to find not only the poor dog seen in the video, but a second smaller dog who was extremely underweight, dehydrated, and trapped in a kennel. Our team rushed both dogs to the ARL, where our Miracle Medical Team immediately began evaluating them and providing care.

These dogs did not deserve this – no animal does. Even more heartbreaking is how incredibly kind both of them are, even after all they’ve been through. Both greeted our team with soft eyes and hopeful tail wags. Supreme loves to offer us kisses, and Legend climbs into any open lap and snuggles in. They both want love so badly they can’t get close enough.

Sadly, calls like this just keep coming – from all over the state – but when you donate today, or make a monthly gift, you’ll ensure we can continue to provide emergency assistance and safety to animals like these so they don’t have to suffer one day longer.

While we can’t change Supreme and Legend’s past, you CAN change their future. Please give a gift of healing and hope to show them, and so many others, that better days are ahead.
