30 dogs just arrived at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa from an overcrowded shelter in Mississippi. Like many shelters in the south, they were overwhelmed with animals and they desperately needed help to give these dogs the second chance they deserve.

Lucky is one of the dogs who made the long trip to start his new life in Iowa. He is only 1 year old and he is deaf, but that doesn’t slow him down. He loves being around people and is very eager and inquisitive, but unfortunately he tested positive for heartworms — a condition that is fatal if left untreated — so he will now need weeks of treatment before he’s ready for a new family. But he’s not alone…
There are countless more animals across our state and country who are in shelters that simply do not have enough space, resources, or adopters to find them all homes. Whenever we can, we want to be there for these shelters and help these pets — pets like Lucky — find their second chances in Iowa … and you can help.
