It just keeps happening.

Our Animal Welfare & Response Team has responded to multiple back-to-back calls for help just weeks after our rescue of over 100 dogs, mobilizing quickly time after time to help additional pets in need. In total, we have taken in 162 MORE rescued animals in the span of just 12 days.1030_multiplerescues_eappeal_ContentNWIowa

First, we assisted authorities in removing 12 animals from a property in northwest Iowa. The 7 dogs and 5 cats were crawling with fleas and many were suffering from skin and ear issues as a result of their living conditions. They are now safe at the shelter receiving the medical care they need.

Just days later, we worked with authorities in southeast Iowa to rescue 59 animals – 14 dogs, a cat, and 44 barn animals – from a difficult situation. The dogs were trapped in dirty outdoor pens with no shelter from the elements and water so dirty it looked black. Some of the barn animals were thin, and a pony had hooves so overgrown they’d started to curve. Our team immediately started evaluating and providing care for the animals, including a sweet mama with three newborn puppies.

Less than 48 hours after returning from southeast Iowa, our team headed north  to assist authorities with the urgent removal of 63 animals from a licensed breeder. 40 dogs, 15 rabbits and 8 cats were living in some of the worst conditions our rescuers had ever seen. The chain link and wire enclosures where the animals were living were covered in feces – with the rabbits alone living on at least 2 inches of urine and fecal matter. Many of the poor dogs were so matted we couldn’t tell what they looked like. It was evening before our team arrived back at the shelter to start settling the animals into what may have been the first clean, safe place they’d ever known.

And even after that, just two days later, we began receiving what would turn out to be 28 cats rescued from a single home by one of our partner agencies in central Iowa.

Again and again our team created space to accommodate these animal victims, and again and again our staff jumped in to give each and every one the care they needed.  But we can’t do any of this without you. Your support is what makes it possible for us to say “yes” when pets have nowhere else to turn and give them the emergency medical care, safe shelter, behavior help and second chances they need.

We never know when the next call for help will come. Your gift today will help support rescue efforts like these, and your monthly gift will ensure our rescue team can continue to be there for innocent animals in their time of need, no matter the distance or how many are suffering.
