SUMMARY:Good Manners
DESCRIPTION:ARL Main-Blumenthal Training Center\n5452 NE Street Des Moines\, IA 50313\n \n\n\n Contact: \n Kathryn Vry (dogtraining@arl-iowa.org) \n GOOD MANNERS class is for dogs 5 months and older at the start of class. Guardians will learn how to teach their dogs in a humane manner using positive reinforcement methods which in turn will enrich their relationship with their dog. Classes consist of 4 weekly sessions\, each lasting about 50 minutes. Topics to be covered will include\, but are not limited to: \n	Understanding canine behavior and communication\n	Basic manners: sit\, down\, come\, stay\, loose leash walking\n	How positive reinforcement works and why we use it\n	Problem solving\n	Problem prevention\n	Training tricks for fun and to impress your friends! \nPrerequisites\nNo prior class is needed to attend Good Manners \nThis class meets once a week for four weeks. Participants will be required to watch the orientation video prior to coming to the first class via the link below.  \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssUfPnvdChk&t=5sVideo can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: Training Class Orientation (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssUfPnvdChk&t=5s)\nFor any issues regarding the orientation video\, please contact dogtraining@arl-iowa.org or call 515-473-9131.  \nDoes your dog consistently react strongly to humans or other dogs? \nReactive dogs have a hard time focusing on their owner during the class making it hard for them to learn and retain the information they are being taught. If you are unsure if your dog will be successful in a group training class\, a Drop-In training class is a great way to see if your dog is able to learn in the busy environment our training center provides. \nIf you have any concerns about the behaviors your dog displays\, please email dogtraining@arl-iowa.org or call (515) 473-9131. \nFee\nThis class is $125. Fees for classes are subject to change and are non-refundable.

SUMMARY:Meet the Author: Mark Z. Danielewski
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Join us for your chance to meet author Mark Z. Danielewski at the ARL’s new Second Chance Ranch!” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]About the Book: \nFrom the bestselling author of House of Leaves comes a magisterial novel about two friends determined to rescue a pair of horses set for slaughter. \nWhile folks still like to focus on the crimes that shocked the small city of Orvop\, Utah\, back in the fall of 1982\, not to mention the trials that followed\, far more remember the adventure that took place beyond municipal lines. \nFor sure\, no one expected the dead to rise\, but they did. No one expected the mountain to fall either\, but it did. No one expected an act of courage so great\, and likewise so appalling\, that it still staggers the heart and mind of anyone who knows anything about the Katanogos massif\, to say nothing of Pillars Meadow. \nAs one Orvop high school teacher described that extraordinary feat just days before she died\, Fer sure no one expected Kalin March to look Old Porch in the eye and tell him: You get what you deserve when you ride with cowards. \nBook Signing Guidelines: Mark will be happy to sign books purchased from Beaverdale Books\, plus a copy of Tom’s Crossing that you might bring along. \nBooks will be available for purchase at the event. \nThis event is hosted by Beaverdale Books. \n  \nThis is a free event but we ask that you please RSVP using the link below. \n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”” h4=”Disclaimer:” css=””]By entering an event or program of the ARL\, you are entering an area where photography\, audio and video recording may occur.
