When the ARL’s Mobile Rescue Team was contacted by Keokuk County Sheriff’s deputies to assist with a rescue, we arrived to find four horses – two of whom were in such terrible condition they were literally skin and bones. It was clear they needed immediate help.

Luna was in so much pain
Luna’s body was hot to the touch and covered in sores when she arrived at the Animal Rescue League. Her skin was red and raw, and the smell of infection filled the room.

When an ARL Animal Services officer stepped into a Des Moines home, the stench was overwhelming. Following the sounds of barking, the ARL officer discovered two large dogs in a basement, shut in separate wire crates, living in their own filth, with no food and no water.

Holly arrived at the Animal Rescue League limping, with a badly swollen leg, a puncture wound, and deep bruising on her lower half. We were told she was found by the side of the road, likely hit by a car.
ARL rescues nearly 140 farm animals living in horrendous conditions
Nearly 140 goats, sheep and pigs are recovering under the care of the ARL, after the ARL’s Mobile Rescue Team assisted with a large-scale farm animal rescue in Washington County.
