HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.

– A gigantic goofball who loves to play, gets the zoomies when excited, and happily leaps off the deck stairs into the yard rather than walk down them

– When he lays down on the floor, it’s not a slow descent – he drops like a sack of potatoes

– PSA: There will be drool

– Likes to chew things like Nylabones, chews and sticks

– Loves a good nap and can sleep most of the day away

– Rides well in the car

– Not much of a barker in his foster home but will let his family know if there is someone right outside the window

– Will likely do best with a family who does not work long hours and who is home a lot, as he prefers being with his people and is most comfortable if a human is nearby

– Startles pretty easily and can be nervous in new situations, but is also very curious and can be quite bold, especially if food is involved

– Has gotten a good start on potty training in his foster home and is about 90% there; will need some help from his new family to get all the way there

– Young, noisy or busy children can be too much for him; would benefit from a more mature home that can work with him on confidence-building

– May take some time to warm up to new dogs and may prefer some dogs over others; would be most comfortable with a slow introduction to new dogs and may do best with a calm, yet confident dog friend (dog intro recommended)

– Had surgery at the ARL to remove what appeared to be multiple socks from his stomach; he has recovered well, but we recommend that he be carefully monitored in his new home to ensure he does not ingest any other non-food items (more info at ARL)

The ARL’s shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label.
