This cat has a condition known as Feline idiopathic ulcerative dermatitis. This is a rare condition caused by self-trauma that forms a crusty, nonhealing ulcer typically between the shoulder blades or neck. This is likely a syndrome rather than a diagnosis with one cause, so prognosis can vary. This cat has been started on a special medication to help control the ulcer. She has also been started on a special prescription diet. She wears a special suit, and we have increased enrichment in the cat’s environment to decrease self-trauma incidences. Please discuss this medical history with your veterinarian. Further medical care will be beyond what the ARL can provide and will be at your vet’s discretion.
