HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet him, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org. — – A true velcro dog who will follow his family around all day every day; wants to be touching his people whenever he can, and when you sit on the floor, he wants to be on your lap – Will lay his head on your chest while you rub his ears – Very attentive to anything going on with his people – if they would sneeze, he’d be right over to see if they were OK – Generally calm but gets the zoomies every now and then; likes to play and have you throw his toy, but forgets he needs to give the toy back – LOVES squishy rubber balls with spikes on them, and is a strong chewer so does best with tough toys; also likes filled shin bones, but needs supervision when enjoying those or his toys – Loves meeting new people and was welcoming to friends, family and even contractors in his previous home – he just wants to be petted – Knows a lot of things, including sit, down, out, heel, and more, but may not always want to listen; will thrive in a home that can give him structure and hold fast, even when he tries to bend the rules – Loves the car and is more likely to lie down when he has a soft bed – Active and thrives with regular exercise; will do best in a home with a fenced yard – Very strong and does pull on a leash; his previous family said a collar and leash is best for walking, as he has been known to wiggle out of a harness and a gentle leader – Was fully housetrained and crate-trained in his previous home; just remember that any dog may need time to get used to a new schedule – Tends to want to chase moving things, such as people on bicycles, as well as other animals – Has been stressed and lacked personal space when around young children; will do best in a home where any kids are older and more mature – Tends to be protective of his space with other dogs; has been successful with visiting dogs under strict supervision but would be happiest as the only dog in his home (dog intro required) – Extremely interested in cats and would likely chase them – May have allergies and is sensitive to diet changes, so his family did not give him human food All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age) The ARL’s shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. |
