HOW TO ADOPT: This cat is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this cat, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org or Cindy at cgerke@arl-iowa.org. — – This cat came from a situation where she did not get the socialization and handling that cats typically get from a young age. Because of this, she will be fearful in new environments and around new people, and will likely need months of acclimation time to feel safe in a home – She may never enjoy being picked up or held – she will be a “companion” cat for someone who wants a cat to love and care for and is okay not having an affectionate lap cat – Looking for a patient adopter who will give her extra time to adjust and understand that she will hide at first; that she will need patience when introducing grooming, carriers and veterinary visits; and that a relationship with her will likely be built on trust and routine, rather than physical affection – Has lived with other cats her entire life and may benefit from having a calm, confident feline companion to help her feel more secure and show her the ropes in a home environment – Will do best in a quiet, mature, predictable home with a cat-savvy adopter who understands undersocialized or fearful cats; while progress may be slow, it will be so rewarding to watch this cat open up, build trust with her people and ultimately thrive – Children are not a good fit for this cat, and she will thrive in a mature home in a very calm, predictable, quiet environment – Please plan on starting her in one room of your home and giving her quite a bit of time (possibly months) to become comfortable with that area and with you before allowing her access to larger areas of the home; this process will help set her up for success by not overwhelming her All adoptable cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP as appropriate for their age) |
