HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.

– A very sweet and gentle girl once she warms up; can be shy at first but will be your friend after a couple days

– The world’s biggest cuddlebug once she trusts you and wants to be a lap dog

– Loves affection and attention; foster family says she is very calm and patient

– Likes spending time with you and cuddling even more than playing with toys

– Can be unsure outside, but happily trots along wagging her tail most of the time

– A little hesitant at first when meeting new people, but very curious and friendly once she’s comfortable

– Foster family says she is a little unsure of joggers she meets on walks, but has made progress staying calm when they pass her

– Foster family said she appeared to be potty trained and did well when allowed to free roam in their home, just remember any dog ay take time to adjust to a new schedule and routine

– Was able to get out of her crate in her foster home, so may need some extra help with crate training with her new family

– Sleeps on her dog bed in her foster family’s living room, but did sneak into her foster family’s son’s bed once and snuggle up in bed with him for the night

– Has done pretty well on a leash and knows sit

– Rides well in the car

– Would probably love a home with a yard and lots of space to explore; even when inside, likes to lay next to a window and look at her space

– Enjoys like-minded dog friends and has done well with a smaller dog in her foster home; doesn’t like sharing her food with other dogs

– Has done well with children of all ages after warming up

– Came from a situation where she did not get the socialization and exposure to the world that dogs typically get from a young age. Because of this, she may struggle with new situations, may show uncertainty with novel everyday objects, and will need patience and structure with housetraining, among other things. We highly recommend a patient home with family members who feel comfortable teaching her how to be a house dog

All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)

The ARL’s shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label.
