HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.

– Came from a situation where she did not get the socialization and exposure to the world that dogs typically get from a young age; because of this, she may struggle with new situations, show uncertainty with novel everyday objects and need patience and structure with housetraining and other dog things

– Once she’s comfortable, she’s a sweet, happy, playful girl full of puppy energy

– Loves treats, and they are a great way to earn her trust and show her new things are not so scary

– Will seek pets and affection from those she trusts, and if her foster family is on the floor, she’ll sit next to them or on their lap while she chews on a toy

– Has a great start on sit and (hand) touch; can stay focused for short periods and loves treats, so she’ll be fun to teach

– Does very well getting a harness and leash on to go outside; loves sniffs in the yard and picking up leaves and sticks

– Has been mostly potty trained in her foster home by staying on a schedule to go out every 2 hours during the day; goes all night without an accident

– Would love a confident dog friend and playmate that is OK with her puppy energy (and sometimes lack of personal space) as she continues to work on her puppy manners (dog intro recommended)

– Young or noisy children may be too much at first; will do best in a home where all family members have calm, soothing voices and kind touches, and who are mature enough to give her time to open up

– We don’t know her history with cats

All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)

The ARL’s shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label.
