HOW TO ADOPT: This cat is participating in our Shelter Cat Getaway foster program, which gives cats a vacation from the shelter and lets them enjoy home life while they wait to be adopted. To schedule a time to meet this cat, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org or Carol at cgriglione@arl-iowa.org.

---

- She likes other cats and interacts well with them so she should do well if adopted with another cat or into a home with a cat needing a companion

- Ejoys playing with her toys, especially small toys that slide easily so she can chase - she also likes paper used as packing in boxes (she loves to slide into it and make it rattle)

- Likes sleeping in elevated places, so she may enjoy a tall cat tree or condo in her new home

- She likes both horizontal and vertical scratching: she uses both a sisal post and a flat cardboard scratcher - as part of her socialization, she will need help learning where the appropriate scratching places are, so numerous scratching options are important

- A shy cat that will take some time to settle into her new home and build your trust, so she is Looking for a family who doesn't mind taking things slow and who will let her open up as she feels comfortable

- Very food motivated - this will be very helpful in helping her build trust

- Young, noisy or busy children will likely be too much for her, so she's looking for a mature home that's calm and predictable

- Please plan on starting her in one room of your home and giving her quite a bit of time to become comfortable with that area, and with you, before allowing her access to larger areas of the home; this process will help set her up for success by not overwhelming her

- Even though she had a rough beginning, Doja Cat is willing to give people another chance. This is truly an opportunity to change her life - and maybe yours as well!

This cat came from a situation where they did not get the socialization that house cats typically get from a young age. Because of this, they may be fearful in new situations and when meeting new people, may need help getting used to a carrier, and may never enjoy being picked up and held. Since this cat has lived with other cats, they may benefit from having another cat friend to help them build confidence and show them the ropes. You can find more info here about cats from hoarding situations and how to work with them to set them up for success.
